In 2012 Shimano introduced the Dura-Ace Di2 group set and matching shift levers (ST-9070). On top of these shifters is a button. Due to a software update and the wireless unit Shimano introduced this year (D-Fly), these buttons can now be used as a remote control to operate external devices, such as cycle computers.
Thanks to this update, riders with a Dura-Ace 9070 group can pair external devices through the D-Fly wireless unit (SW-EWW01) and use the button on top of the bracket, under the hood, as a remote control switch. This allows riders to keep their hands on top of the hoods while scrolling through the screens of compatible computers. This development fits within Shimano’s stress-free riding concept. It is up to the developers of the external devices, such as cycle computers, to design the exact features that the buttons control.
